How to Troubleshoot Crashes and Performance Issues on Arc for Desktop

This article applies to Arc for macOS and Windows

If you're experiencing crashes or performance issues on Arc for desktop, try these troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:

Unload any unused extensions
 

Sometimes extensions cause webpages to use a more resources than necessary. Uninstalling or toggling unused extensions off can reduce resource consumption.

• On macOS go to the Mac Menu Bar and click Extensions > Manage Extensions to uninstall or toggle off extensions.
• On Windows go to the Arc menu > Extensions > Manage Extensions to uninstall or toggle off extensions.
   

Find the culprit tab

If a tab appears at the top of the list for resource consumption in the Arc Task Manager, close that tab and reopen it to reset its processes.

To open the Arc Task Manager:

• On macOS go to the Mac Menu Bar and click and click Help > Troubleshooting > Open Task Manager.
• On Windows go to the Arc menu > Help > Open Task Manager.
   

Clear your cache 

It may help to clear your device cache if you continue to experience issues.

• On macOS go to Arc > Settings > Profiles > Clear Browsing Data then clear your cache. Clear your cache on all of your Profiles.
• On Windows go to the Arc menu > Settings > Profiles > Clear Browsing Data then clear your cache. Clear your cache on all of your Profiles.
   

Update Arc

• On macOS go to Arc > Check for Updates from the Mac Menu Bar and update to the latest version.
• On Windows go to the Arc menu > Check for Updates and update to the latest version.
   

Update to the latest OS

If there's an update available for your OS, update to the latest and check if your problem persists.

Restart your device

If you haven't restarted in a while, a simple device restart can help clear out the cobwebs and resolve crashes.
